یوسف و زلیخا (اثر جامی) / Yusuf and Zulaykha (Masnavi by Jami)

Yusuf and Zulaykha (یوسف و زلیخا)

A narrative masnavi by Nur al-Din Abd al-Rahman Jami (15th century) and the fifth of the seven poems that make up his collection Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones). Composed in rhymed couplets, it retells the Quranic and Biblical story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and the love of Zulaykha, wife of the Aziz of Egypt, transforming the tale into a Sufi allegory of the soul's ascent from earthly passion to divine love.

The poem is divided into numbered sections (بخش), each treating an episode of the story — from Zulaykha's dreams and her marriage to the Aziz, through her love for Joseph, his imprisonment, and their eventual reunion. Understanding this work as the immediate literary container clarifies how each individual section fits within a single continuous narrative, rather than sitting directly under the whole Haft Awrang collection.
