یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha

Yusuf and Zulaykha is the fifth of the seven masnavis (narrative poems) that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It retells the Quranic and Biblical story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaykha, wife of the Egyptian Aziz, reworked as a Sufi allegory in which earthly passion becomes a ladder toward divine love. The poem is divided into numbered sections (بخش) that follow the stages of the tale: Joseph's beauty, Zulaykha's dream and longing, her attempts at union and Joseph's chaste refusal, his imprisonment, and their eventual reunion. Understanding this work-level frame (its allegorical program, characters, and narrative arc) is prerequisite to reading any individual section such as Section 45, which otherwise sits directly and misleadingly under the whole Haft Awrang collection.
