یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha

یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zulaykha

Yusuf and Zulaykha is the fifth of the seven masnavi poems that together form Jami's Haft Awrang. Composed in the 15th century in rhyming couplets, it is a narrative romance that retells the Quranic and Biblical story of the prophet Joseph and Zulaykha, the wife of the Aziz of Egypt.

Across its many numbered sections (بخش), the poem traces Joseph's journey to Egypt, his sale in the market, Zulaykha's overwhelming love and longing, their separations and trials, and their eventual union by God's command. Each section (for example, Section 38, in which Malik sells Joseph and Zulaykha buys him) is an episode within this single continuous work.

This node is the individual masnavi that sits between the whole Haft Awrang collection and its constituent sections, so learners can situate any one section within the arc of the poem rather than attaching it directly to the seven-poem collection.
