یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf and Zuleikha (Jami's Masnavi within Haft Awrang)

Yusuf and Zuleikha

یوسف و زلیخا (Yusuf and Zuleikha) is one of the seven narrative masnavis that together make up Jami's Haft Awrang (the Seven Thrones). Composed by the 15th-century Persian poet Abd al-Rahman Jami, it retells the Quranic and Biblical story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zuleikha, reworking it as a Sufi allegory of the soul's journey through earthly love toward divine love.

The work unfolds as an ordered sequence of numbered sections (بخش) — including the arrival of foreign envoys seeking Zuleikha's hand, her marriage to the Aziz of Egypt, her journey to Egypt, and her eventual recognition of Joseph. Each بخش is an individual learning node; this node is the intermediate literary work that groups those sections and situates them within the larger Haft Awrang collection.
