Yusuf o Zulaykha (یوسف و زلیخا) — Fifth Masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang

Yusuf o Zulaykha

Yusuf o Zulaykha is the fifth of the seven masnavis (long narrative poems) that make up Jami's Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones). It retells the love story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaykha, the wife of the Egyptian Aziz, drawing on the Quranic Sura of Yusuf and on Sufi allegory, in which earthly passion becomes a ladder toward divine love.

The work unfolds across numbered sections (بخش), each narrating a distinct episode: Joseph's beauty, his casting into the well and sale into Egypt, Zulaykha's dreams and longing, her stratagems and temptation, Joseph's chastity and imprisonment, and their eventual union. Individual sections — for example, the maidens displaying their beauty before Joseph — are episodes read within, and prerequisite to understanding, this larger narrative.

This node is the book-level container that sits between the collection Haft Awrang and its constituent sections, preserving the structural path Collection → Work → Section.
