یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf o Zulaykha — Jami's Narrative Masnavi within Haft Awrang

Yusuf o Zulaykha (یوسف و زلیخا)

Yusuf o Zulaykha is one of the seven narrative masnavis that together form Jami's Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones). Composed in rhymed couplets, it reworks the Quranic and Biblical story of Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaykha's love for him into a Sufi allegory of the soul's longing for divine Beauty.

The poem unfolds across numbered sections (بخش) that trace the narrative arc: Joseph's childhood and the well, the caravan carrying him to Egypt, his sale to Zulaykha, her passion and his restraint, his imprisonment, and his eventual honoring by the king. Each individual بخش section is a direct component of this masnavi, which in turn sits under the larger Haft Awrang collection.

Understanding this work as the connecting container clarifies the prerequisite path from the whole collection down to any single section such as Section 35.
