یوسف و زلیخا / Yusuf va Zulaykha (Fifth Poem of Jami's Haft Awrang)

Yusuf va Zulaykha

Yusuf va Zulaykha is the fifth of the seven masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a long narrative poem (masnavi) in rhyming couplets that retells the Quranic and folkloric story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and Zulaykha, wife of the Egyptian noble.

The poem is organized into numbered sections (بخش). Each section narrates one episode of the story — for example, Zulaykha nurturing Joseph, sending her nurse to plead with him, building a house to summon him, and later regretting his imprisonment. Reading any single section presupposes knowing that it belongs to this continuous masnavi and sits at a particular point in its unfolding plot.

Structurally, this poem is the intermediate container between the whole Haft Awrang collection and its individual sections: Haft Awrang → Yusuf va Zulaykha → Section (بخش).
