Yusuf va Zulaykha

یوسف و زلیخا (Yusuf va Zulaykha) is the fifth of the seven masnavis that make up Jami's Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones). This long narrative poem retells the story of the prophet Joseph (Yusuf) and the Egyptian noblewoman Zulaykha as a Sufi allegory in which Zulaykha's consuming love for Joseph's beauty figures the soul's yearning for divine Beauty.

The masnavi is organized into numbered sections (بخش) that trace the arc of the tale: Zulaykha's dream-visions of Joseph, her disappointment on meeting the Aziz of Egypt, the purchase of Joseph, her pleas and stratagems for union, Joseph's chaste refusal, the years of separation and grief during his imprisonment, and their eventual reconciliation and Zulaykha's spiritual transformation.
