Original content

English translation

The king has no choice but to rely on two people In order to live in this world with statehood and glory: One of them manages his religious affairs, And the other directs the affairs of his kingdom. First, I shall begin with the mention of the one Who organizes the affairs of the Sharia and religion. Who is he? A scholar distinguished in knowledge, Who has stepped into action with his knowledge. Cultivating the fields of pre-eternity with knowledge and manners, He has earned the title of a 'good tree.' 'Its root is firmly established' by the strength of religion, 'Its branches are in the heaven' by the light of certainty. Its root is firm in the ground of religion, Its branches shed fruit upon the world. If a broken person's foot should slip On the path of religion due to the commanding self, Before things turn dark, he takes his hand, And graciously accepts his excuse. If the king, deceived by his stubborn soul, Steps outside the arena of religion, He does not leave his donkey stuck in the mud, But takes hold of his reins and brings him back. He is a confidant in all secrets, A healing ointment for all wounds. He does not step on the path of passion, And does not draw a breath except for God. Whatever he speaks, he speaks for the sake of Truth, He treads the path of Truth for the sake of Truth. He is not one who sits beside the practitioners of tyranny, Boasting of his proximity to them, Opening his tongue in flattery, Or assisting those who have gone astray, Keeping their deeds far from retribution, Or trying to purify their forbidden gains with lawful ones. Whose belly of greed and stomach of avarice Fail to keep him away from forbidden things; Whatever comes before him, whether bitter or salty, He makes no distinction, like a blind duck. As a blind duck swallows a morsel, It stretches its neck toward the sky. He is a fly, and these oppressors are dogs, And the blood of dogs flows as nourishment in his veins. At times, by abandoning all desires and passions, A dog may become a person through the turning of fortune. But a dog-fly will never become a person, Its nature will never change from being a dog-fly.
