English translation

The son of Abd al-Malik, named Hisham, Was in the Sanctuary with the people of Syria. He was stepping in the circumambulation of the Kaaba, But due to the crowd of the Sanctuary's dwellers, Touching the Stone was not within his reach, So he sat in a corner to watch.

Suddenly, the elite of Prophet and Saint, Zayn of the Worshippers, son of Husayn ibn Ali, In the cloak of splendor and the robe of light, Passed through the sacred precinct of the Sanctuary.

Wherever he went for circumambulation, A split would open in the ranks of the people. He walked forward to touch the Stone, And the path and passage became empty of people.

A Syrian asked Hisham: 'Who is this one with such beauty and majesty?' Out of ignorance, Hisham hesitated, And feigned ignorance of knowing him. He said: 'I do not know him, I know not who he is, Whether he is from Medina, Yemen, or Mecca.'

Abu Firas, that rare orator, Was present among the assembly of the Syrians. He said: 'I know him well; Why ask him? Turn your face to me!

This is the one of whom Mecca and Batha, Zamzam, Abu Qubays, Khayf, and Mina, The Sanctuary and the non-sanctuary, the House, the Corner, and Hatim, Nadwan and the Station of Abraham, Marwah, Mas'a, Safa, the Black Stone, Arafat, Tayyibah (Medina), Kufa, Karbala, and the Euphrates, Each is well aware of his worth, And cognizant of the high status of his station.

He is the apple of the eye of the Prince of Martyrs, The bud on the branch of the tree of Zahra. The fruit of the garden of Ahmad the Chosen, The tulip of the meadow of Haydar the Attacker.

When he takes his place among the Quraysh, By way of pride it is spoken by the tongue of the Quraysh That through this leader of praised character, Virtue and generosity have reached their pinnacle.

The peak of honor is his abode; The carrier of fortune is his camel-litter. From such manifest honor and fortune, Both Arabs and non-Arabs fall short.

For his grandfather on the seat of authority, The Seal of the Prophets is the engraving of the signet ring.

Beaming from his face is the light of guidance, Spreading from his character is the scent of loyalty. His countenance is the day-brightening sun, Increasing light and destroying darkness.

His grandfather is the source of divine guidance, And he has been derived from such a source.

Out of modesty, he does not deem it fitting To open his eyes fully towards anyone. And the people also cast down their eyes before him, For out of awe they cannot look at him. Without the precedence of his smile, The people have not the power to speak to him.

He is famous among both Arabs and non-Arabs; Where is his denier, that self-deluded negligent one? The entire world has received the ray of the sun; If a blind man does not see it, what is the harm? The sun has risen high in the heavens; If the owl has no share of it, what is the fear?

Upon the good-natured and the evildoers alike, His hand is a cloud raining bounties. The grace of that cloud upon the whole world, Even if it pours continually, never decreases.

He is of that high-principled company Who have surpassed the heights of Illiyyin. Love for them is the proof of truthfulness and harmony; Hatred for them is the sign of disbelief and hypocrisy. Closeness to them is the foundation of elevation and glory; Remoteness from them is the cause of rebellion and error.

If they count the people of piety, The seekers of the Master's pleasure, Among that group they would be the exemplary guides, And in that cohort they would be the leaders.

If a questioner should ask the heavens, hypothetically: 'Who are the best of the people of the Earth?' Upon the tongue of the stars and planets, No word would come except 'Them.'

They are the rain-clouds of generosity when they bestow, And they are the lions of the dust when they fight.

Their mention is foremost on lips, Before all creation, right after the mention of Allah. That which gives currency to the beginning of every letter Is their name after the name of God. And the conclusion of every poetry and prose, in truth, Gains its splendor from the blessing of their name.'
