Section 55 - Mu'tamar and Uyaynah's Departure Towards the Ahzab Mosque in Search of Raya

Original content

English translation

When the king of morning raised his banner, He dispersed the army of the evening. Both of them rushed from that sanctuary in haste, Seeking a remedy, they headed towards the Ahzab Mosque. Until they pressed forward with their first steps, They spent the entire day in search. Suddenly, from the road, the breeze of the beloved arrived, That group of women came into sight. But the goal of their endeavor was not with them; The host of stars arrived, but not that moon. They began to converse with Uyaynah, They told the story of that beautiful one: That she had packed her belongings from this abode, And driven her litter to another station. The face of the sun was near covered by clouds; She took the path to the tribe of Bani Sulaym. Her face became the Qiblah of that tribe, And her two eyebrows became the arch of their mihrab. Like a tulip, she carried your scar in her breast, She took a flaming tulip from your garden. Although she packed the burden of departure from here, She is a seeker of union with you, wherever she is. She is fresh as jasmine and fragrant as a rose, Her name, due to its fragrance, is Raya. When the name of Raya reached his ear, Reason left his head, and consciousness left his heart. He lifted the veil from the face of modesty, Abandoned shame, and raised this lamentation: 'Alas! The beloved has bound the litter, The burden of the heart has broken the back of patience. I came in the hope of seeing her, But destiny turned her face away from me. Though my worth is not higher than the dust, The place of Raya is nowhere but the Pleiades. While the Pleiades has its face turned toward the dust, Why is Raya's back turned to me? How long must I shed blood from my two eyes, And pour the blood of my heart from within? No blood remains in my heart, nor water in my eyes; All means of weeping have become scarce. Who is there among friends and sympathizers, And loyal companions on the path of fidelity, Who, in the separation of that beloved, Will lend me a weeping eye, So that I may weep from the pain of her separation, And weep from the fire of longing for her?'
