English translation

Sleep is death, and life is wakefulness; Making peace with death is weariness of life. You flee from the wound of death's lancet, Yet why do you turn your face toward death's brother? Sleep is a thief that diminishes life; Keep your cash safe from the thief. There is a clear proverb known to great and small: Is it wise to entrust one's goods to a thief? Unless this thief is of such a high rank That one can safely entrust goods to him? O seeker who has set out on the path of quest, Half of your life is day, and half is night. If your night is spent entirely in sleep, Your life is cut in half at the time of reckoning. If you wish for your day to be prolonged, Steal something from the night and sew it onto the day. If, for example, a single day is reduced from your life, You will fall into grief and sorrow. Yet you have reduced a hundred nights from your life, And out of pride, you have grieved but little over it. Resolve upon the pre-dawn journey, for without the pre-dawn journey, This path cannot be brought to completion. For the night-travelers, traversing the path at night, Though it brings a thousand kinds of fatigue, When they finally make their camels kneel at the station, Only then do they sing praises of night-traveling. 'Indeed, the travelers of every evening Praise the night-journey when the morning comes.'
