بخش ۴۱ - در بیان آنکه چون عشق به مرتبه کمال رسد روی عاشق را از معشوق نیز بگرداند و در خود کند / Section 41 - On the Explanation That When Love Reaches the Degree of Perfection, It Turns the Lover's Face Away from the Beloved Too and Directs It Inwardly (Into the Self)

Original content

English translation

When the lover's love reaches perfection, He becomes free from everything other than love. He makes love his direction of prayer, And clears his heart even of the beloved. The love of the beloved becomes the love of love itself, And what was the rind becomes the kernel of the kernel. No beloved remains for him other than love itself; He becomes vanquished in the contemplation of love. When his love leads to this limit, He draws his foot into his skirt and finds rest. He pulls his head into the collar of the soul, And shuts his eyes to everything other than love. The Prophet was a seeker of this station, When in his time he petitioned the Truth, Saying: 'O You who are my eye and ear entirely, The very substance of my intellect and awareness, Make Your love, which is the ultimate desire, And a kingdom everlasting and eternal, To me, weary of soul and thirsty of heart, More beloved than my own hearing and sight.'
