Section 67 - On the Scrupulosity of Prayer and Intention for Attaining Composure

Original content

English translation

The devil inclines toward his obsessive doubt; Deceit enters his veins like blood. Sometimes he says 'I intend [to pray]' repeatedly, Sometimes he dispels it with 'There is no power [but in God]'. Sometimes he makes his tone low, and sometimes high; Sometimes he chooses haste, and sometimes delay. Sometimes he raises his hands up to his shoulders; Sometimes he lets his hands drop to his sides. Sometimes he shakes his head, sometimes his beard; Sometimes he turns his face to the left and right. The leader finished all the recitations of the prayer, While that scrupulous man is still in the state of opening consecration. People are bewildered as to what he is doing, While the devil is cheerful, saying, 'This is my intimate companion!' By repeating his intention, He aims to attain the presence of heart and composure. But this state is very difficult to achieve, How can it be attained in a single moment? Would that he had thought of this beforehand, And had worried about this matter before this time. Whoever groomed and tended his donkey at home, Easily carried the load to the destination. But he who gave barley to his beast in the middle of the desert, Ended up putting his load on his own back.
