Section 54 - Salaman Answering the Sage

Original content

English translation

When Salaman heard these words from the Sage, The fragrance of wisdom wafted to his scent. He said, 'O you, by whom the soul of Plato is made glad, May a hundred Aristotles be under your command! From the beginning, the Intellects were ten; You have now made those ten into eleven. I have set my face upon your path, And am the humblest disciple of your threshold. Everything you said, I found to be the essence of wisdom, And I hastened to accept it with all my soul. But it is clear to your luminous mind That the choice of action lies outside of me. The power of the Agent is in proportion to the capacity of the recipient, And capacity is not created by the decree of the Creator. Whatever capacity I possessed from the very beginning, How can I possibly break away from it in the end? Nay, it is beyond the power of the Agent To produce an effect contrary to that capacity.'
