Section 52 - The Sage Advising Salaman

Original content

English translation

When the King became silent from advising Salaman, The Sage became highly diligent in offering advice. He said, 'O fresh fruit of the ancient garden, The latest wondrous design of the Creator's pen! Reader of the letters of the book of seven and four, Identifier of the lines on the page of night and day. You are the treasurer of the treasury of Adam, You are the copy of the compendium of the universe. Know your own worth, and do not consider yourself lightly, For you are superior to whatever I may say. He whose hand of power kneaded your clay, Wrote the letter of wisdom in your pure heart. Cleanse your breast from the designs of outer form, Turn that mirror toward spiritual meaning, So that your breast may become a treasury of spiritual meanings, And your mirror drowned in the light of gnosis. Close your eyes to the beauty of the beloved, Do not strive any more in the company of the beloved. What is the beloved? A form full of shame and blemish, Whose skirt and collar are not clean of lust. Do not be fascinated by such pollution, And do not step outside the sanctuary of well-being. The semen in your body is the source of life for your soul, The strength of your limbs, the strength of your pillars. O you who are in conflict with your body and soul because of lust, Keep it or pour it away, as you wish. From the beginning you held a high rank, Your constellation was above the heavens. The lust of your carnal soul has cast you down, And made your bond in the abyss of the earth.'
