Section 71 - Salaman Becoming Submissive to the Sage and Devising a Plan for His Affair

Original content

English translation

When Salaman became submissive to the sage, He took up residence under the shadow of his kindness. The sage became deeply moved by his submission, And performed wondrous magic in his instruction. He poured the wines of his good fortune into his cup, And poured the nectars of his wisdom into his palate. His cup became delightful from that wine, And his palate became sugar-scattering from that nectar. Whenever Absal would come to his mind, And he would cry out from separation from her, When the sage would learn of that state, He would create the image of Absal. He would keep it before his eyes for an hour or two, Sowing the seed of comfort in his heart. When that pain and suffering found relief, That image would depart to the realm of non-existence. When the resolve of the gnostic becomes powerful, He can create whatever he wishes without harm. But if he neglects it for even a single moment, Its form of existence vanishes. From time to time, when he began to speak, He would introduce the description of Venus. He would say Venus is the candle of the assembly of stars; Before her, the beauty of all fair ones is lost. If she reveals her beauty, She will drive the sun and the moon mad with love. There is no one more skilled than her in song, Making the banquet of pleasure more joyful. The ear of the cosmos is full of the melody of her harp, Constantly in spiritual ecstasy from her tune. When Salaman listened to these words, He found inside himself an inclination toward her. As these words were repeated many times, He found that inclination growing immensely within him. When the sage perceived this meaning from him, He exerted a great influence upon Venus, So that she fully manifested her beauty, Working a profound effect on Salaman's heart and soul. She washed away the image of Absal from his mind, And the love for Venus's face became firmly established in him. He saw the eternal beauty and flew away from the transient; He chose the eternal life over the fleeting.
