Section 69 - Some Companions Seeing Him in a Dream After His Death, May His Secret Be Sanctified

Original content

English translation

They also relate from him that one of the companions saw his personage in a dream after his death, Who showed much passion and restlessness, weeping, anxiety, and lamentation. He said, 'O Sheikh, what state is this of yours, that you have grief and weariness over death? It seems you are not pleased with your condition, that you long for this world.' He said, 'Yes, I am very desirous that my Lord would return me to the world, Not for status, wealth, adornment, and gold, nor for preaching, gathering, and the pulpit; But rather so that continuously I would have nothing but a staff in my hand, To peer into all the streets, and knock on the doors of the houses one by one, And call out to the owner of the house: "O you who have lagged behind everyone for the sake of nothing! Your life has passed in distraction; see what it is you are missing and being left behind from!"' O Jami, the breaths of life are precious spoils; the termination of life is moment by moment. Do not be a captive to today's task; gather a treasure and provision for tomorrow. The day of your life has reached the afternoon; your afternoon has stretched to the evening prayer. The sleep of the slumber of death is near; the wave of the whirlpool of death is near. Before this, like those with dark chests, do not sit heedless of those who are near.
