English translation

The star of the tower of honor of all creations, The pearl of the casket of the shell of all creations. The first movement from the ocean of eternity, The prime mover of existence from non-existence. When the pen of Grace began to write, Before all else, it commenced with this character. The opening of the preface of this alphabet, Is the foremost letter which is in Ahmad. When the point of Unity raised its stature, For the sake of Ahmad, it fashioned an Alif. Having divided like a diameter, that straight Alif, The circle of the unseen Essence into two halves. One half of it is the arc of the realm of eternity, The other arc is the contingent world facing non-existence. Cast toward the target by a pure hand, An arrow from these two bows; how wondrous is the pure thumb-ring! He is the one seated at the head of the assembly in this court, 'I was a prophet' is the witness to that. From his face, the candle of prophethood was shining, While the clay of Adam had not yet seen water. Exaltation came from him to the pulpit of the heavens, Splendor came from him to the sermon of 'Lawlak' (had it not been for thee). Except for that King, the refuge of messengership, The sphere of heaven did not pitch its golden-roped tent. Except for that candle, the shelter of guidance, The moon did not become the dome of this court. Until they gathered splendor from his face, They did not light the torch of the sun. Until they cast their gaze upon his stature, They did not raise the pillars of the Divine Throne. His smile breathed soul into the world, And the office of giving life reached the Messiah (Jesus). His lightning leaped from the valley of Moses, Whereby a flash of light came into his hand. The stature of the Tuba tree is but a shadow of his height, The Lote Tree (Sidrah) is but a step from the palace of his nobility. A drop from the cup of his generosity is Salsabil, The bird of the air of his sanctuary is Gabriel. The manifest light is his pure forehead, The firm rope is the ring of his saddle-strap. So that it might grab onto the curve of his saddle-strap, The exalted Throne seated itself upon the Pedestal. He is like the sun, and the sun is but his morning, For the morning receives its light from the sun. Had a gleam not shone from his face, Where would his morning have found this light? There is a correct rule in this circle: The shining of the sun comes after, and the morning comes first. He is the shedder of light, both before and after, The source of lights is none but he, and that is enough. O Jami! Be far from your own defilement, And like a mote, be submerged in this light.
