English translation
O you who have become a teller of subtle points with your tongue, And you who have become a doer of rare wonders with your speech. The dot of speech is upon your tongue; because of that dot, your tongue has brought you loss. If you erase that dot from this word, the heavens will bow their head to your decree. Whoever, in this azure dome of heaven, spreads a sound of goodly glory, The goodness of his glory is from silence; his silence is a sword that slays ignorance. Much speaking is not out of excellence; the clamor of the drum is from its emptiness of substance. The jar full of wine is devoid of sound; when it becomes empty, it becomes full of noise. When a flower from the unseen blossoms in your heart, do not throw it to the wind with an unpleasant breath. Until your lips are closed to pretense, how can your heart become a treasury of meaning? Behold the bud that has no tongue in its mouth, yet its ruby and gold are bound inside its grip. The beautiful lily which is tongue-bearing, its purse remains empty of rubies and gold. The speech of the parrot is the danger to its life; the lock is what makes its cage a house of sorrows. The crow, which found relief from speaking, wanders gloriously to spectate the garden. It is narrow-mindedness in this ancient palace [world] to have a tight capacity and expansive speech. The heavens are ever silent in this perpetual rotation, while the carder's wheel makes a thousand clamors. The row of your teeth is beautifully set in order; before this row, your lips act as a curtain-drawer. Your tongue has made a sword for a single word; how long will you expose secrets and break descriptions? Although speech is the quality of life, it is the cause of a hundred kinds of dispersion. For the living heart, which increases life, do not repeat scattered and idle words as a daily chant. Keep your eye on the coming and going of breaths, and guard these two or three newcomers. Every breath of yours, which is like prime matter, is capable of accepting any beautiful or ugly form. If out of generosity you give it the form of beauty, you give it the merit of virtue and perfection. It will become the title on the page of your life, and the opening of the letter of your goodness. But if out of foolishness you mark it with deficiency, and drag it into the depths of evil and tumult, It will strike through the page of your religion, and it will become a needle that blinds the eye of your certainty. When you open your lips, pledge yourself to awareness, otherwise draw back your tongue and remain silent. What is awareness? It is awareness of God; an awareness devoid of the plague of heedlessness. When your heart is benefited by awareness, the foundation of your fortune will rise high. Do not become bold in vain speech, lest you fall down from that high station.
