چون سلامان شد حریف ابسال را
صرف وصلش کرد ماه و سال را

باز ماند از خدمت شاه و حکیم
هر دو را شد دل ز هجر او دو نیم

چون ز حال او خبر جستند باز
محرمان کردندشان دانای راز

بهر پرسش پیش خویشش خواندند
با وی از هر کجا حکایت راندند

نکته ها گفتند از نو و کهن
تا به مقصود از طلب آمد سخن

شد یقین کان قصه از وی راست بود
داستانی بی کم و بی کاست بود

هر یک اندر کار وی رایی زدند
در خلاصش دستی و پایی زدند

بر نصیحت یافت کار آخر قرار
کز نصیحت نیست بهتر هیچ کار

از نصیحت ناقصان کامل شوند
وز نصیحت مدبران مقبل شوند

از نصیحت زنده گردد هر دلی
وز نصیحت حل شود هر مشکلی

ناصحان پیغمبرانند از نخست
گشته کار عقل و دین زیشان درست

هر که از پیغمبری دم زد بر او
جز نصیحت ز آسمان نامد فرو

English translation

When Salaman became the companion of Absal, He spent months and years in her union. He remained away from the service of the King and the Sage, And the hearts of both were split in two from his absence. When they sought news of his condition again, The confidants made them aware of the secret. They summoned him before them for questioning, And conversed with him about every topic. They spoke of subtle points, both new and old, Until the talk reached the true object of their quest. It became certain that the story about him was true, A tale without addition or subtraction. Each of them expressed an opinion on his affair, And strove in every way to deliver him. In the end, they resolved the matter with counsel, For indeed, there is no better deed than advising. Through advice, the imperfect become perfect, And through advice, the ill-fated become prosperous. Through advice, every heart is brought to life, And through advice, every difficulty is resolved. Advisors are the prophets first and foremost, Through whom the affairs of intellect and religion have been set right. For anyone who spoke of prophecy, Nothing but advice descended upon him from heaven.
