بخش ۴۰ - قصه آن گلخنی که در مشاهده جمال شاهزاده آتش در ژنده اش گرفت و از ژنده به تنش رسید و وی از همه بی خبر بود / Section 40 - The Story of the Furnace-Heater Who, While Beholding the Beauty of the Prince, His Rags Caught Fire, and from the Rags It Reached His Body, While He Was Completely Unaware of It All

Original content

English translation

From the face of the prince, a furnace-heater Received in his heart a light from love. Whenever the rider passed along the road, The furnace-heater would lose himself in gazing. When he fell on his knees from the pain of love, He made his abode in the narrow space of the furnace. For some time, the prince traveled the road, But the furnace-heater did not appear at his vantage point. With grace, the prince devised an excuse, And galloped his steed toward the furnace. When the furnace-heater saw the face of the king, He surrendered the coin of his existence at the king's feet. He fixed his eyes and heart upon the beauty of the Beloved, While his rags caught fire from the flame that was lit. The flame clung from his rags to his body, But he did not avert his gaze from the sight of the king. He kept his bewildered eyes upon the face of the Friend, Aware of neither his body nor his rags. When the king hastened toward him out of mercy, He found nothing but his ashes in his place.
