Section 26 - The Story of the Sage's Transaction and Conversation with the Woman

Original content

English translation

A sage, prompted by generosity, took a step, And poured a thousand dirhams into his wife's pocket. After a few days had passed since then, the sage Asked the woman for an account of the bag of silver. She said, 'Wherever a beggar raised a cry, One dang went to the beggars' affairs. Another dang went to the guests, To friends and kind companions. What remained of it all, as my own savings, I kept for my own dark day.' The wise man said, 'By the law of generosity and giving, What you have said to me is an error, an error! Whatever you gave away is indeed your true savings, Giving light to your dark day. And what you have set aside for yourself, Giving it a place in your pocket and purse, Either an heir's business will flourish from it, Or the hand of fate will plunder it.'
