بخش ۹۴ - عقد بیست و نهم در قناعت که بر حد ضرورت وقوف نمودن است و چشم طمع به زیادتی نگشودن / Section 94 - The Twenty-Ninth Knot: On Contentment, Which Is to Stop at the Limit of Necessity and Not Open the Eyes of Greed for Excess

English translation
O you who have girded your loins with a hundred greeds like an ant, Woe to you if you carry this greed to the grave! The harvest of your existence has become grain by grain, Yet you are running and striving like this for a single seed. I do not know at all what your state will be, When the turn of the sphere tramples you underfoot. In the ambush-house of the two-colored times, The pride of a leopard struck a wound upon your heart. Greed in your soul is like a mouse; strive Lest its wound suffer from the mouse's blight. Even if both worlds were turned upside down, Where would the eye of greed ever be sated? The letter 'Sād' whose lower loop is in the line of letters, Is an eye empty of satiety. How long will you remain in life-severing greed? What is the harvest of this long life of yours? Empty your heart of greed, for indeed The fish is caught by the hook because of greed. Free your mind from greed, for always It is greed that makes the bird bound in the snare. Bury greed, do not commit it, for religion is an art; Suppress greed, do not follow it, for it is a danger. The furnace of greed is dark and narrow; Make your way toward the rose garden of contentment. The rose that rises from the soil of contentment Scatters musk into the navel of sweet herbs. The 'inexhaustible treasure' is a jewel from it; The 'undiminishing wealth' is tidings of it. That jewel is the ornament of the ear of wisdom, And these tidings are the source of eternal life. The Anqa (phoenix) lacking the 'Qāf' of contentment (Qanā'at) Is nothing but a crow croaking types of self-sufficiency. A treasure devoid of contentment is pain; Contentment itself is the true treasure, for contentment is a treasure. The meager world that is acceptable to you, When it is attained, be pleased with it. The little that keeps you near to your task Is better than the abundance that casts you far away. The contented is at peace from the pain of seeking, While the greedy is in futile pursuit. Be satisfied with whatever they have given you, And do not stretch your neck toward what has not yet come. In contentment, which is within your reach, If it were only self-respect that you gained, it is sufficient. If you turn your reins toward contentment, At that very moment, you will find a pleasant life. Beneath the revolving sky, The contented is free, and the greedy is a slave. It is nothing but the rule of foolishness To enslave oneself out of greed to someone like oneself.
