English translation

The sea-cow brings a pearl from the sea, It places it in the meadow and grazes around it. In the rays of the pearl's light, the sea-cow Grazes on hyacinth and lily in haste. The droppings of the sea-cow are ambergris Because its food is narcissus and lotus. Whoever's food is the light of majesty, How can lawful magic not be born from his lips? Whoever, like the bee, has revelation as his bounty, How can his house not be full of honey? That cow grazes in the light of the pearl, Suddenly it goes further away from the pearl. A merchant puts black mud upon the pearl So that the meadow and pasture become dark. Then the merchant man flees up a tree, The cow seeking the man with its hard horns. Twenty times that cow charges around the meadow To enclose that enemy on its horns. When the bull despairs of him, It comes to the place where it had placed the pearl. It sees mud on top of the royal pearl, Then it flees from the clay like Iblis. Since Iblis is blind and deaf to the essence of clay, How does the cow know that there is a pearl in the mud? 'Get down' cast the soul into the abyss; This menstruation deprived it of its prayer. O companions, from this resting place and that speech, Fear God, for desire is the menstruation of men. 'Get down' cast the soul into the body, So that the pearl of Eden is hidden in mud. The merchant knows it, but the cow does not; The people of heart know, but not every cow of clay. Every clay within whose heart is a pearl, Its pearl is the indicator of another clay. And that clay which received no light from God's sprinkling, Could not bear the company of pearl-filled clays. This speech has no end; our mouse Is on the banks of the stream, at our ear.
