English translation

The bird said to him, "Master, do not stand in seclusion; Monasticism is not good for the religion of Ahmad.

That Messenger forbade monasticism; Why have you adopted an innovation, O meddler?

Friday prayer is a condition, and congregation in prayer, Enjoining what is right and avoiding what is wrong.

Enduring the torment of the ill-natured with patience, Benefiting the creatures like a cloud.

The best of people is the one who benefits people, O father; If you are not a stone, why do you consort with clods?

Be among the community that has received mercy; Do not abandon the Sunnah of Ahmad, be governed by it."

He (the hunter) said, "Whoever's intellect is not steadfast, In the presence of the wise, he is like stone and clod.

Like a donkey is he whose only security is bread; Associating with him is the essence of monasticism.

Because all other than God turns to dust; Everything coming after a while is indeed coming.

His state is the state of his qiblah; Call him dead since he is a seeker of the dead.

Whoever is with this group is a monk, For clods and stones are his companions.

Actual clods and stones do not waylay anyone, From these (human) clods, a hundred thousand calamities arrive."

His bird said, "Then Jihad occurs at that time, When such a highwayman is in the middle of the road.

For the sake of protection, assistance, and battle, The lion-man comes upon the unsafe road.

The sweat of manliness becomes apparent then, When the traveler travels alongside enemies.

Since that Messenger was the Prophet of the Sword, His followers are rank-breakers and champions.

The right course in our religion is war and majesty; The right course in the religion of Jesus is cave and mountain."

He said, "Yes, if there is assistance and strength, So that with power he strikes against evil and tumult.

When there is no strength, abstinence is better; In fleeing from the unbearable, jump easily."

It said, "Sincerity of heart is needed for the task, Otherwise, companions do not fall short for the companion.

Become a friend so that you may see friends without number, Because without friends you will remain without help.

The devil is a wolf, and you are like Joseph; Do not let go of Jacob's skirt, O pure one.

The wolf is mostly prone to catching When a yearling sheep wanders alone from the flock.

He who abandoned the Sunnah or the congregation, In such a beast-infested place, has he not spilled his own blood?

The Sunnah is the path, the congregation is like a companion; Without path and without companion, you fall into a narrow strait.

Not a companion who is the enemy of intellect, Seeking an opportunity to steal your garment.

He goes with you to find a mountain pass, Where he can plunder you there.

Or he is camel-hearted (cowardly); when he sees fear, He speaks of turning back from the path of learning.

He terrifies his companion with cowardice; Consider such a companion an enemy, not a friend.

The path is one of risking life, and in every thicket There is a calamity to repel every fragile life.

The path of religion is therefore full of tumult and evil, Because it is not the path of every effeminate nature.

In the path of this fear are the trials of souls, Like a sieve for separating the bran.

What is the path? Full of footprints. What is the companion? A ladder of thoughts.

Let us assume that wolf does not find you due to caution, Without the congregation, you will not find that joy.

He who walks joyfully alone on a path, With companions, his journey becomes a hundredfold.

Even a donkey with its grossness, from companions, O poor one, Enter into joy and becomes receptive to strength.

Every donkey that travels alone from the caravan, For him, that path becomes a hundredfold from fatigue.

How many more goads and sticks does it endure To cross that desert alone?

That donkey says to you, listen well: If you are not a donkey, do not go alone like this either.

He who happily goes alone on a watch, With companions, without doubt, goes more happily.

Every prophet on this straight path Showed miracles and sought companions.

If there is no cooperation among the walls, How can houses and storehouses be raised?

If each wall were separate, How could the roof be suspended in the air?

If there is no cooperation between ink and pen, How can writing appear on papers?

This woven mat that someone spreads, If it were not joined together, the wind would blow it away.

Since God created pairs from every kind, Then results appeared from congregation."

He spoke and he spoke with agitation; Their debate on this meaning grew long.

Make the Masnavi agile and pleasing; Make the story concise and short.

After that, it said to him, "Whose wheat is that?" He said, "It is a trust from an orphan without a guardian.

The property of orphans is a trust with me, Because they consider us trustworthy."

It said, "I am distressed and in an injured state; Carrion is at this time lawful to me.

Behold, by permission I will eat of this wheat, O trustworthy, pious, and respected one."

He said, "The mufti of necessity is also you; If you eat without necessity, you become a sinner.

And if there is necessity, abstinence is still better; And if you eat, at least provide its guarantee."

The bird then sank into itself at that time; Its unruly steed took its head from the pull of the reins.

When it ate that wheat, it remained in the trap; How much did it recite Yasin and Al-An'am!

After being trapped, what use is regret and sighing? This black smoke should have been before that.

That time when greed and desire stirred, At that time say, 'O Helper!'

For that time is before the ruin of Basra; Perhaps Basra may also be saved from that destruction.

Weep for me, O my weeper or my bereaved, Before the destruction of Basra and Mosul!

Wail over me before my death and seek forgiveness; Do not wail over me after my death, and be patient!

Weep for me before my ruin in separation; After the flood of separation, abandon weeping!

At that time when the devil was becoming a highwayman, At that time one should have recited Yasin.

Before the caravan is broken (robbed), At that time beat the wooden drum, O watchman!"
