Original content

English translation

A certain man had a ram which he was pulling behind him; A thief stole the ram and cut its rope. When he became aware, he ran left and right, So that he might find where that stolen ram was. At the head of a well, he saw that thief, Who was crying out, 'Alas, woe is me!' He said, 'What are you lamenting about, O master?' He replied, 'My purse of gold fell into the well. If you can go in and pull it out, I will joyfully give you a fifth of it. You will receive twenty dinars as a fifth.' He said to himself, 'This itself is the price of ten rams. If one door was closed, ten doors opened; If a ram is gone, God gave a camel in exchange.' He took off his clothes and went into the well; That thief swiftly carried away the clothes too. Prudence is needed to bring one safely to the village; Without prudence, greed brings a plague. He (the ego/Satan) is a thief with a mischievous nature; Like imagination, he assumes a new form every moment. No one knows his deceit except God; Flee to God and be delivered from that imposter.
