چون سلامان مایل ابسال شد
طالع ابسال فرخ فال شد

یافت آن مهر قدیم او نوی
شد بدو پیوند امیدش قوی

فرصتی می جست تا بیگاه و گاه
یابد اندر خلوت آن ماه راه

کام دل از لعل او حاصل کند
جان شیرین با لبش واصل کند

تا شبی سویش به خلوت راه یافت
نقد جان بر دست پیش او شتافت

همچو سایه زیر پای او فتاد
وز تواضع رو به پای او نهاد

شه سلامان نیز با صد عز و ناز
کرد دست مرحمت سویش دراز

چون قبا تنگ اندر آغوشش گرفت
کام جان از چشمه نوشش گرفت

هر دو را از بوسه شد آغاز کار
زانکه بوس آمد قلاووز کنار

بس که می سودند با هم لب به لب
شد لبالب هر دو را جام طرب

گرچه لبهاشان به هم بسیار سود
ماند باقی آنچه اصل کار بود

بهر سودایی که در سر داشتند
پرده شرم از میان برداشتند

شد گشاده در میان بندی که بود
سخت تر شد میل پیوندی که بود

داشت شکر آن یکی شیر این دگر
شد به هم آمیخته شیر و شکر

کام جان پر شیر و شکر بودشان
تا شکر خواب سحر بربودشان

English translation

When Salaman became inclined toward Absal, Absal's fortune became auspicious. That ancient love of his found renewal, and his bond of hope with her grew strong. She was seeking an opportunity, at all hours, to find a way into the privacy of that moon. To attain her heart's desire from his ruby lip, and join her sweet soul with his lip. Until one night she found a way to his private chamber, and hastened before him, offering her soul as cash. Like a shadow she fell beneath his feet, and out of humility placed her face upon his feet. Prince Salaman too, with a hundred honors and grace, stretched out his hand of mercy toward her. He embraced her tightly like a garment, and drew his soul's delight from her sweet spring. The affair began with kisses for both of them, for a kiss is the harbinger of an embrace. So much did they rub lip against lip, that the cup of joy overflowed for both. Although their lips rubbed together much, there still remained the essence of the matter. For the passion they harbored in their minds, they drew aside the veil of modesty from between them. The bond that was between them was untied, and the desire for their union became tighter. One possessed sugar and the other milk; milk and sugar became blended together. Their souls' palate was filled with milk and sugar, until the sweet sleep of dawn snatched them away.
