این سخن گفت و از زمین برخاست
غضب آمیز و خشمگین برخاست

چون درآمد به خانه ریا گفت
کز چه رو خاطرت چنین آشفت

گفت از آن رو که جمعی از انصار
به هوایت کشیده اند قطار

همه یکدل به دوستداری تو
یکزبان بهر خواستگاری تو

گفت انصاریان کریمانند
در حریم کرم مقیمانند

بهر ایشان پیمبر مختار
خواسته ست از خدای استغفار

از برای چه دوستدارانند
وز هوای که خواستگارانند

گفت بهر یگانه ای ز کرام
عالی اندر نسب عیینه به نام

گفت من هم شنیده ام خبرش
نسبتی نیست با کسی دگرش

چون کند وعده در وفا کوشد
وز جفای زمانه نخروشد

هر چه آید به دست او بدهد
چشم بر دست دیگران ننهد

پدرش گفت می خورم سوگند
به خدایی که نبودش مانند

که تو را هیچگه به وی ندهم
نقد وصلت به دامنش ننهم

واقفم از فسانه تو و او
زانچه بوده میانه تو و او

گفت باری مرا چه بازار است
که ازان خاطر تو دربار است

نه خیالی ز روی من دیده ست
نه گیاهی ز باغ من چیده ست

لیک چون سبق یافت سوگندت
به اجابت نمی کنم بندت

قوم انصار پاکدینانند
در زمان و زمین امینانند

بر مقالاتشان مگردان پشت
رد ایشان مکن به قول درشت

مکن از منع کامشان پر زهر
گر نمی بایدت گران کن مهر

نرخ کالا ز حد چو در گذرد
رغبت از جان مشتری ببرد

گفت احسنت خوب گفتی خوب
کم فتد نکته اینچنین مرغوب

آنگه آمد برون و با ایشان
گفت کای زمره وفاکیشان

کرد ریا قبول این پیوند
لیکن او گوهریست بی مانند

مهر او هم به قدر او باید
تا سر او به آن فرو آید

باشد او گوهری جهان افروز
کیست قایم به قیمتش امروز

English translation

He spoke these words and rose from the ground; He arose wrathful and angry. When he entered the house, Raya said to him: 'Why is your mind so troubled?' He said: 'Because a group of the Ansar Have lined up in pursuit of you, All single-hearted in their love for you, And single-tongued to propose to you.' She said: 'The Ansar are noble people, They dwell in the sanctuary of generosity. For them, the Chosen Prophet Has sought forgiveness from God. On whose behalf are they showing affection, And for whose sake are they proposing?' He said: 'On behalf of a unique one among the noble, Exalted in lineage, named Uyaynah.' She said: 'I too have heard news of him; He cannot be compared to anyone else. When he makes a promise, he strives to fulfill it, And does not cry out against the cruelty of time. Whatever comes into his hand, he gives away, And does not look to the hands of others.' Her father said: 'I swear an oath By the God who has no equal, That I will never give you to him, Nor place the coin of your union in his lap. I am aware of the story of you and him, And of what has transpired between you.' She said: 'Indeed, what dealings do I have That should make your heart so heavy? Neither has he seen any reflection of my face, Nor has he plucked any herb from my garden. But since your oath has taken precedence, I will not compel you to agree (to break your oath). The tribe of the Ansar are of pure faith, They are trustworthy in every time and land. Do not turn your back on their words, And do not reject them with harsh speech. Do not make their palates bitter with refusal; If you do not wish [for this union], demand a heavy dowry. When the price of a commodity exceeds the limit, It drives away the customer's desire.' He said: 'Bravo, well spoken! Seldom does one hear such a fine point.' Then he went out to them and said: 'O congregation of faithful ones! Raya has accepted this union, But she is an unparalleled jewel. Her dowry must also match her worth, For her head to bow to it. She is a world-illuminating gem; Who is able to meet her price today?'
