English translation

O you whose brow is patterned with a frown, Your bad temper is the painter of wrinkles. Your eyebrow has a knot for every hair, Putting a knot upon the vein of life. Your lip is silent of any sweet point, While your face sells vinegar in its sourness. What is all this sourness upon your face, Since your temper does not break your bile? No arrow of calamity has come towards you; Why is your face full of wrinkles like a shield? In your heart are a hundred knots of ignorance; The witness of that water is the knot on your forehead. If the bottom of the stream is uneven, That knot on its surface is inevitable. No weed rears its head from the ground, Unless its root is deep within the soil. If a simple-hearted person becomes your guest, They will eat nothing but sourness from your table. Everyone's nature flees from you; A fly has no desire for vinegar. Do not make your face wrinkled with knots, Do not make things difficult for the weary-hearted. You are not a cloud; why this sour face? How long do you wish to live with a sour face? It is better that you shine like lightning, So that as long as you exist, you remain happy and laughing. To smile in the face of the distressed Is better than giving them a bag of sugar. By sugar, the palate and mouth are comforted, But by a sweet smile, the soul is increased. How long will your face be full of knots like the night with stars? Become knot-free like the breath of dawn, and laugh. The garden is smiling because of the smiling flower; Laughter is the custom of the wise. Though laughter is far from seriousness, Constant seriousness is not within human capacity. The heart gets weary of seriousness night and day; Remedy its temperament with humor. Seriousness is wearing out one's feet on a journey; Jest is resting on the road for a moment. If your rest does not dispel your suffering, You will fall down from exhaustion. But not a jest that, with the smoke of lies, Takes away the luster from the face of your seriousness, Planting the seed of malice in the clay of hearts, Causing the sweat of shame to pour from foreheads. Seek instruction from the Bestower of Wisdom; Speak the truth, but speak it pleasantly and sweetly. An almond kernel that is to be eaten Is better when it is preserved in sugar.
