یکی دریاست هستی، نطق ساحل
صدف حرف و جواهر دانش دل
به هر موجی هزاران در شهوار
برون ریزد ز نقل و نص و اخبار
هزاران موج خیزد هر دم از وی
نگردد قطره ای هرگز کم از وی
وجود علم از آن دریای ژرف است
غلاف در او از صوت و حرف است
معانی چون کند اینجا تنزل
ضرورت باشد آن را از تمثل
English translation
Being is an ocean, speech is the shore, The shell is the word, and pearls are the knowledge of the heart. With every wave, thousands of royal pearls Are cast out from narration, scripture, and traditions. Thousands of waves rise from it at every moment, Yet not a single drop is ever diminished from it. The existence of knowledge is from that deep ocean, The sheath of its pearl consists of sound and word. When meanings descend to this level, They must of necessity be expressed through metaphors.
