Section 28 - A Parable Explaining the Relation of Reason to Intuition

Original content

English translation

A born-blind person does not believe you about colors, Even if you speak of them for a hundred years with reports and proofs. White, yellow, red, green, and straw-colored Are nothing but darkness to him. See how a born-blind person in his ill state Can never gain sight from the oculist's collyrium. Reason, in perceiving the states of the Hereafter, Is like a born-blind person in this world. Beyond reason, human beings have a state Through which they recognize those hidden secrets. Like fire in stone and iron, God has placed this within the soul and body. When this stone and iron are struck together, Both worlds become illuminated by its light. From that union, this secret becomes manifest; Once you know this, go and efface yourself. You are the copy of the divine imprint; Seek whatever you desire from within yourself.
