Section 11 - A Tale on the Justice of the Sultan

Original content

English translation

An old man told a tale one day, Which was to me like the mark of an arrow. That in those times there was a king, Who was a refuge for the world of justice. He spread equity, fairness, and justice, Everyone benefited from his bounty. He said: One day he galloped towards a highwayman, He saw goods and belongings tied up. He saw several captives bound in chains, The thief weeping, and the captives laughing at that. He quickly approached the highwayman, And pierced the pearl of inquiry with him. He asked him: 'What is this laughter and crying? And whose are this wealth and these tight bonds?' He said: 'This bitter weeping is ours, For such wealth from right and left, They gathered from the unlawful and the lawful, They accumulated gold, goods, and property. Now their belongings scattered to the wind, they are in chains, They laugh at themselves and at the just ones. Our justice turned into oppression and our day into night, That is why they do not hear our lamentations to God. We are just, but through our own craft, We removed the chains from our own bodies. Whoever abandons his own justice, God will appoint an oppressor over him, To bring ruin upon his wealth and his life, And to deal with his oppression by means of oppression.'
