Original content

English translation

When you have passed from this group And cast your gaze upon another group You will see the world of justice and fairness All pure meaning and far from boasting The leader of nations, a prosperous gathering The light of the Chief Justice, a shining candle The Mufti of roots and branches, and heir to generosity The candle of the Muhammadan religious law, Mahmud He who, since taking a seat at the head of the religious law, Bound the foot of sedition and the two hands of oppression For the sake of stability in the path of religion The dust of his threshold has become like the water of life From the dust of the world's pride, his skirt And his pocket are as pure as faith The praised key to the lock of judgments Who has seen a hub and ring without a pillar? Like a pillar that exists without enchantment The rope and pillar for the tent of the religious law Having seen without the trouble of imagination and pride The knowledge near to him is far to the world He has not been brought from his height to a decline Except by this foul old crone, the deceiver of fools [the world] His heart is the dwelling place of the religious law for months and years His ear is the highway to the hiding place of the religious law The religion of God is joyous from his existence The house of the religious law is flourishing through him His pure heart is like the qibla of faith His determination and prudence are all evidence and explanation On the day of his judgment, free from compulsion and predestination Inclination [bias] has not seen any victory over him He has never shown inclination in his judgments He has stood up in religion according to his own condition His outward and inward self are pure from bribery Inclination is in his nature, not in the heavens If Judge Yusuf were alive He would be satisfied to act as his deputy On the day of gathering, mutual loss, and earthquake He will give an answer for his judgments His record book on the day of gathering and judgment Is like the record book of Yahya, pure and empty [of sin] If everyone is afraid of the gathering And of retribution and painful punishment He will be safe from all calamities He will not be in the group of judges at the gathering The chief of creation and master of masters [the Prophet] Said that judges are of three types Two will perish and one will be saved Good news that in heaven you will wear a crown He whose equal the contrivances of the age do not bring Nor does any judge in any city Since judgment entrusted the science of religion to him Ignorance chose to depart towards annihilation Before him, that secret which was in the treasury Was like a lamp within a glass In this great presence, like the soul His meaning is apparent and he is hidden His soul, for the sake of the unseen world He has emptied of custom and the character of fault He has purified his purity from the turbidity of the world From among the gathered nations He has refreshed for the sake of God The soul without intellect and the intellect without soul His gaze, like the pure breath of the Messiah Has been eloquent in explaining knowledge and religious law The hand of the grace of his religion has made him Adorned with the knot of his dignity The candle of religion is his form and his insight The intellect of the soul is his character and his innermost thought When he takes up the pen for a fatwa He holds the umbrella of truth over his head He does not take the pen without truth at all Do not twist complaints from the wind of the air With no inclination toward anyone and not weary of work Like the Prophet, occupied with the science of religion Therefore he does not engage in vain things For he is preparing his affairs for the hereafter You see from no eye of soul and intellect That you open, unless it looks to him If you know the premise from the conclusion He is not empty of a contrivance here He has been an outstanding leader in all circumstances Whether in the actions of religion or in words In contentment he does not entrust religion to the self He does not leave anger in his nature He is like the pool of Kawthar from benevolence His sweet drinking place is free from the trouble of the public He is the helper and sympathetic one for the people of religion He is the Mufti of the East and the West today From this world, in pursuit of the abode of the hereafter He has become occupied in drawing provisions So that when he turns the reins to that world He will find the outcome to be like his own name [Mahmud/praised] His nature is proportional to forbearance His drafting is similar to knowledge Like destiny, he does not show hypocrisy in generosity Like divine decree, he does not make a mistake in giving Whatever was in the veil of potentiality His intellect manifested it in action for his mind His awakened judgment, through the path of rightness Puts a whole world of adversaries to sleep He was a sea for excellence and a mine for dignity He was a wet nurse for the religious law and a soul for religion Since his face shone from his judgment It taught one sun to another Like his good fortune, he has a place from both worlds Inevitably he is the elder of the kingdom of God His heart is as white as his hair May the wind be in the garden of the religious law forever!
