بخش ۲۳ - ستایش امیرالمؤمنین عثمان رضی‌اللّٰه عنه / Section 23 - In Praise of the Commander of the Faithful Uthman, May Allah Be Pleased with Him

ذکر الشهید القتیل المظلوم ابی عمر عثمان بن عفان ذی النورین المکرم فی المنزلین ختن رسول اللٰه صلی اللٰه علیه و سلم باثنتین ام کلثوم و رقیة المبارکتین الکریمتین جامع القرآن الشاهد یوم التقی الجمعان الذی انزل اللٰه سبحانه و تعالی فی شانه: امن هو قانت آناء اللیل ساجدا و قائما یحذر الآخرة و یرجو رحمة ربه، و قال النبی صلی اللٰه علیه و سلم فی حقه: عین الایمان عثمان بن عفان مجهز جیش العسرة، و قال ایضا صلوات اللٰه و سلامه علیه حکایة عن اللٰه تعالی: استحییت من عثمان بن عفان، و قال الحیاء من الایمان و عثمان عین الحیاء، و قال علیه السلام انا مدینة الحیاء و عثمان بابها.
گاه با عمر کرده نقص پدید

چون به حیدر رسید خود نرسید
آنکه بر جای مصطفی بنشست

بر لبش شرم راه خطبه ببست
آن ز لکنت نبود بود از شرم

زانکه دانست جانش را آزرم
چه عجب داری ار فگند سپر

شرم عثمان ز رعب پیغمبر
زانکه بد جای احمد مرسل

از پی وعظ و از طریق مثل
گر رسد عقل سر در اندازد

ور رسد روح مایه دربازد
زانکه پیش وی از مهان جهان

نطق چون قطن گشت پنبه دهان
گفت عثمان چو بسته شد راهش

بگشاد از میان جان آهش
که مرا بر مقام پیغمبر

بی وی از عیش مرگ نیکوتر
گشت ایمن ره ممالک از او

سر به بر درکشد ملایک ازو
شرم و حلم و سخا شمایل او

هر سه ظاهر شد از مخایل او
این سه خصلت اصول را بنیاد

به دو دختر رسول را داماد
شد اقارب نواز درگه او

وآن اقارب عقارب ره او
شربت غم چو جان او بچشید

آن ستم از بنی امیه کشید
تخم سدره اگر نورزیدی

جبرئیل از حیا بلرزیدی
سیرت داد را چو دد کردند

با چنین نیکمرد بد کردند
راستی از میانه بربودند

بی کرانه کژی بیفزودند
شامیانی که شوم پی بودند

اهل آزرم و شرم کی بودند
شوری اندر جهان پدید آمد

قفلشان بسته بی کلید آمد
عقل اگر چند صاحب روزیست

گفت یارب چه بی نمک شوریست
عقل کانجا رسید سر بنهد

روح کانجا رسید پر بنهد
عقل کانجا رسد چنان باشد

کیست عثمان که با زبان باشد
عین ایمان که بود جز عثمان

حجت این کالحیا من الایمان
دست مشاطهٔ پسندیده

کحل شرمش کشیده در دیده
دایم از شرم صدر پیغمبر

ژاله و لاله با رخش همبر
شرم او را خدای کرده قبول

شده خشنود ازو خدا و رسول
مدد از خلق جشن عشرت را

عدت از مال جیش عسرت را
از پی ساز مصطفی شب و روز

بوده منفق کف و منافق سوز
به دل و عدل سرو آزادش

به دو چشم و چراغ دامادش
کرده در کار ملک و ملت و ملک

در قران کشیده اندر سلک
دل و جان را عقیدهٔ عثمان

ساخته درج مصحف قرآن
سیرت و خلق او مؤکد حلم

خرد و جان او مؤید علم
علم تنزیل مر ورا حاصل

دل او سر وحی را حامل
صورتش خوب و نیتش کامل

قابل صدق و عالم عامل
عاشق ذکر او لئیم و ظریف

جود او نکتهٔ وضیع و شریف
هم ز اسلاف مهتر آمده او

در کنار شرف برآمده او
دل و چشمش ز شوق در محراب

چشمهٔ آفتاب و چشمهٔ آب
در قرائت همه ثنا و ثبات

با قرابت همه حیا و حیات
بذل او پشت ملت نبوی

شرم او روی دولت اموی
دل او با نبی موافق بود

نور جانش چو صبح صادق بود
شرم او کارساز خویشاوند

گرچه بد برد ازو رحم پیوند
شوخ چشمی زیان ایمانست

شرم دیده زبان ایمانست
در دویی عقل راست پیچاپیچ

چشم ایمان دویی نبیند هیچ
قابل آمد چو آینهٔ ایمان

پیش او بد همان و نیک همان
عقل جز نقد خیر و شر نکند

ورنه توحید بد بتر نکند
بد و نیک از درون چو برگیرد

دیو را چون فرشته بپذیرد
نه ز توحید بل ز شرک و شکیست

که به نزد تو دین و کفر یکیست
چشم افعی چو کرد علت کور

پیش چشمش چه زمرد و چه بلور
ذل همان چاشنی شناس که عز

کایچ باطل نکرد حق هرگز
روی آیینه را که نبود زنگ

زنگ نپذیرد و نگیرد رنگ
هیچ کج هیچ راست نپذیرد

راست کج را به راست برگیرد
فتنه ای را که خاست در قصبه ش

از ذوالارحام بود و از عصبه ش
آن نه زو بود فتنه و کینه

زشت زنگی بود نه آئینه
خلق را آنچه عالی اندخسند

شرم و ایمانش عذرخواه بسند
خلق عالم هرآنکه نیک و بدند

همه در جستن هوای خودند
او همه نیک بود و نیک یافت

سوی یاران خویشتن بشتافت
آن جهان را بر این جهان بگزید

زانکه خود نیک بود نیکی دید
وای آنکس که سعی در خونش

کرد و این خواست رای ملعونش
زان چنان خون که خصم از وی تاخت

فسیکفیکهم خلوقی ساخت
سر او عمرو عاص داد به باد

سر او پیش دشمنان بنهاد
او ذوالارحام را گرامی کرد

طلب مهر و نیکنامی کرد
از دل خود نگه بدیشان کرد

تکیه بر اصل آب و گلشان کرد
دل صادق بسان آینه ایست

رازها بیش او معاینه ایست
دشمنان را چو خویشتن پنداشت

بی غش و بی غل از محن پنداشت
بود وی با محمد بوبکر

همچو بوبکر بی بد و بی مکر
بد گرامی بسان فرزندش

عالیه خویش کرد و پیوندش
آنکه بوبکر را چو جان بودی

کی به فرزند او زیان بودی
دشمنان ساختند غایله ها

تا پدید آورند حایله ها
هرکه او بدگرست و بدکار است

گرچه زنده ست کم ز مردار است
بدگری کار هیچ عاقل نیست

دل که پر غایله ست آن دل نیست
خالق ما که فرد و قهارست

از حقود و حسود بیزار است
آفرین خدای عز و جل

باد بر وی به اول و آخر
بعد با عمرو حیدر کرار

گشت بر شرع مصطفی سالار
ای سنایی به قوت ایمان

مدح حیدر بگو پس از عثمان
با مدیحش مدایح مطلق

زهق الباطل است و جاء الحق

English translation

Mention of the martyred, slain, oppressed Abu Amr Uthman ibn Affan, the Possessor of the Two Lights (Dhu al-Nurayn), honored in both abodes, the son-in-law of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) through two of his blessed and noble daughters, Umm Kulthum and Ruqayyah; compiler of the Quran, witness on the day the two hosts met, about whom Allah the Exalted and Majestic revealed: 'Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord...' And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding him: 'The eye of faith is Uthman ibn Affan, the equipper of the Army of Hardship.' And he also said (peace and blessings be upon him), quoting Allah the Almighty: 'I am shy of Uthman ibn Affan.' And he said: 'Modesty is from faith, and Uthman is the eye of modesty.' And peace be upon him said: 'I am the city of modesty, and Uthman is its gate.' Sometimes he showed deficiency with Umar, but when he reached Haidar [Ali], he did not reach at all. The one who sat in the place of Mustafa, modesty blocked the path of the sermon on his lips. That was not from a stutter, it was from modesty, because his soul knew shame and respect. What wonder do you have if he dropped his shield? The modesty of Uthman from the awe of the Prophet. Because the place of Ahmad the Messenger, for preaching and by way of example, If intellect reaches it, it bows its head, and if the spirit reaches it, it loses its substance. Because before him, of the greats of the world, speech became like cotton, cotton-mouthed. Uthman said, when his path [of speech] was blocked, his sigh opened from the midst of his soul: That for me, in the station of the Prophet, without him, death is better than life. The path of the realms became safe because of him, the angels drew their heads to their chests because of him. Modesty, forbearance, and generosity were his traits, all three became apparent from his qualities. These three traits are the foundation of principles; he was the son-in-law of the Messenger through two daughters. His court became a cherisher of relatives, and those relatives became the scorpions of his path. When his soul tasted the syrup of sorrow, he endured that oppression from the Banu Umayya. If he had not cultivated the seed of the Lote tree, Gabriel would have trembled from modesty. When they made the character of justice like a wild beast, they did evil to such a good man. They snatched away rectitude from the middle, they increased crookedness without bound. The Syrians who were ill-omened, when were they people of respect and modesty? A tumult appeared in the world, their lock became closed without a key. Intellect, though it is a possessor of sustenance, said, 'O Lord, what a tasteless tumult this is.' Intellect, when it reached there, laid down its head; Spirit, when it reached there, laid down its wings. When intellect reaches there, it is like that; who is Uthman to have a tongue? Who was the eye of faith but Uthman? The proof of this is that modesty is from faith. The hand of the approved beautifier drew the kohl of his modesty into the eye. Always from the modesty of the Prophet's breast, dew and tulip were comparable to his face. God accepted his modesty, God and the Messenger became pleased with him. Assistance from his character for the festival of joy, equipment from his wealth for the Army of Hardship. For the sake of equipping Mustafa, night and day, he was a spender with his palm and a burner of hypocrites. By the heart and justice of his free cypress, by the two eyes and lamps of his son-in-law, He engaged in the affairs of the kingdom, the nation, and property, drawn into a string in conjunction. The belief of Uthman made heart and soul the casket of the volume of the Quran. His character and nature affirmed forbearance, his intellect and soul supported knowledge. The knowledge of revelation was attained by him, his heart was the bearer of the secret of revelation. His face was beautiful and his intention perfect, receptive to truth and a practicing scholar. The lover of his mention was both the base and the elegant, his generosity was the topic of the lowly and the noble. He came as a leader from his ancestors too, he rose in the embrace of honor. His heart and eyes from longing in the prayer niche, a fountain of the sun and a fountain of water. In recitation, all praise and steadfastness; with kinship, all modesty and life. His giving was the back of the prophetic nation, his modesty was the face of the Umayyad state. His heart was in agreement with the Prophet, the light of his soul was like the true dawn. His modesty was the helper of the relative, although the bond of the womb suffered badly from him. Impudence of the eye is the loss of faith, modesty of the eye is the tongue of faith. In duality, the intellect has twists and turns, the eye of faith sees no duality at all. He became receptive like the mirror of faith, before him, bad was the same and good was the same. Intellect does nothing but critique good and evil, otherwise, monotheism does not make bad worse. When he removes bad and good from within, he accepts the demon like an angel. It is not from monotheism, but from polytheism and doubt, that near you, religion and disbelief are one. When disease made the eye of the viper blind, before its eye, what is emerald and what is crystal? Recognize the taste of humiliation the same as honor, for falsehood never undid the truth at all. The face of the mirror that has no rust does not accept rust and does not take color. No crookedness accepts any straightness, the straight takes the crooked to straightness. The sedition that arose in his town was from his relatives and his paternal kin. That sedition and malice were not from him, it was the ugliness of the rust, not the mirror. For the people, what the lofty ones conceal, his modesty and faith are sufficient apologizers. The people of the world, whoever are good and bad, are all in search of their own desires. He was all good and found good, he hastened towards his own companions. He chose that world over this world, because he himself was good, he saw goodness. Woe to the one who made an effort for his blood, and his accursed opinion desired this. From such blood that the enemy spilled from him, he made the creation of 'Allah will suffice you against them.' Amr ibn al-Aas gave his head to the wind, he laid his head before the enemies. He honored his relatives, he sought love and a good name. From his heart he looked at them, he relied on the origin of their water and clay. A truthful heart is like a mirror, secrets before it are visible. When he considered his enemies like himself, he considered them without adulteration and without deceit from afflictions. He was with Muhammad and Abu Bakr, like Abu Bakr, without evil and without deceit. He was dear like his son, he made Aaliyah his relative and connection. The one who was like a soul to Abu Bakr, when would there be harm to his child? Enemies made calamities so they could bring about obstacles. Whoever is an evildoer and works evil, though he is alive, he is less than a corpse. Evildoing is not the work of any intelligent person, a heart that is full of calamity is not a heart. Our Creator, who is Unique and Subduing, is disgusted with the spiteful and the envious. Praise of God, the Mighty and Majestic, be upon him at the beginning and the end. Afterwards with Umar and Haidar the Repeatedly Attacking, he became the commander over the law of Mustafa. O Sanai, with the strength of faith, speak the praise of Haidar after Uthman. With his praise, absolute praises, it is 'falsehood has perished' and 'truth has come'.
