Section 71 - On Sincerity and 'The Sincere are in Grave Danger'
Text and Translation
| Since it is from Your threshold, tell him to rub Sleep under the feet of the host of imagination. | |
| Like a candle, he who has no selfhood left Will smile at You when You strike off his head. | |
| With You, what should I do with status, intellect, and gold? You are my religion and my world, what else should I do? | |
| Give me heart and behold my bravery, Call me to Yourself and see how sweet it is. | |
| If I fill my quiver with Your arrows, I will easily grasp the waist of Mount Qaf. | |
| You are the companion of the one who is not unwise, And the owner of the one who does not belong to himself. | |
| Since I am helpless, open the door for me; Since I have lost the path, show me the way. | |
| No self-conceited person was ever a God-seer; The self-observing man was not a man of religion. | |
| If you are a man of Sharia and religion, For a moment, step away from self-conceit. | |
| O Lord, forgiving Creator, Do not turn Your servant away from Your door. | |
| Make me bound to You, take away my sleep; Make me thirsty for You, do not give me water. | |
| Why should one seek a heart from this one and that one? Your own pain is the guide to your destination. | |
| You waste your life in labor, Like an unbridled donkey before green pastures. | |
| You wander aimlessly around every town; Seek the donkey on the road where you lost it. | |
| If the donkey was stolen in Iraq, How then did they see you in Yazd and Rey? | |
| A bridge lies ahead until you become weary; When you become weary, what is the sea and what is the bridge to you? | |
| On this path, from your own justice and knowledge, Make your provisions, and do not think of any bridge. | |
| Do not intend to board the ship, for it is full of peril; The man of the ship is unaware of the sea. | |
| Though it be newly risen and newly caught, It is strange for a duck to seek a ship. | |
| Even if the duckling was born only yesterday, The water of the sea reaches only to its chest. | |
| Be like the duck, and the world like flowing water, Safe from the depths of the endless sea. | |
| The duckling is in the middle of the Sea of Oman, While a blockhead has become the ship's captain. | |
| O Lord, diminish these blockheads of the world, For the sake of the honor of mankind. | |
| If you set your foot on the path of eternity, You will not let go of the great ocean. | |
| The foot that is bound to eternity, The outer surface of the ocean is its bridge. | |
