Section 16 - On the Condemnation of Greed

Original content

English translation

Abandon greed and let go of covetousness; Greed and covetousness are the source of sorrow. Since God called greed a wrath, The wise person did not seek refuge in it. Whoever makes greed their leader, Makes sleep and food entirely forbidden for themselves. It is a colorful painting with no soul in it, A golden table with no bread upon it. Greed is a mere image with nothing underneath, It can never satisfy anyone at all. Whomever the demon of greed takes as a guest, Hear the truth: they died of hunger. When you entangle yourself with windy covetousness, It is like managing a house full of nothingness. Whoever became a follower of covetousness, Passed beyond three and became a fourth. Through deception, it has taken away everyone's sleep, Giving no bread, yet taking away everyone's honor. From this ancient circular table, People have received only slaps and no satisfaction. Until Resurrection, its guest has never eaten A single full belly of bread from its table. These two are the hell from within you, In the eyes of intellect, their forms are lust and greed. If you do not abstain from these two in mortality, In eternity, you shall rise from within them.
