Section 36 - On the Rule of the King

Original content

English translation

Seek the foundation of power in that world, Seek the heavenly shadow and glory. Keep your ambition high in your nature, Empty your heart of the affairs of the world. Wash your hands of the waters of this stream, Seek a drink from the water of the pool of Kawthar. The eternal kingdom is the builder of perfection, The kingdom of the world is a player of illusions. There is no harvest for this worldly kingdom, Seek the eternal kingdom, set your heart upon it. Why do you bind your heart to this metaphorical abode? How can low ambition reach the heights? He is your purpose in both worlds, From Him comes consolation for this sorrow of yours. Leave the carrion to the dogs, Along with the shadow and glory of bone-eating. Consider the commands and prohibitions of the world as a dream, Consider its water source as a mirage. When the thirsty one turns towards the mirage, Fortune turns its back on him. What will you do with a five-day kingdom of illusion, When the kingdom of glory and majesty is meant for you? Do not hasten towards the mirage out of greed, Because the mirage has no bottom. A hundred thousand led-horses are saddled, Before the pavilion of religion. He gave you the way, He keeps you as king, He raised you, He sustains you. Your throne on the face of the earth is a disgrace, The neck of the celestial sphere is meant for this purpose. The desire of the wounds of time is your desire, Its day and night are under your bridle.
