Section 40 - The Description of the Deceived in the Abode of the World

Original content

English translation

Did you hear that Hamid Laffaf When he circumambulated the sanctuary of the Haram Suddenly he came across an old man One who had no equal in his time. He said, 'O Sheikh, tell me how you are; Are you bound to the suffering of the age?' He said, 'My state is safety and goodness; My words, year and month, are "there is no harm".' He said, 'Woe to you, you spoke in error; Like an ignorant man, you have become conceited within yourself. A human only possesses goodness When he crosses the narrow bridge (Sirat). You have not yet crossed the bridge; How can it be "good", O beast of the field? After that, when you enter Paradise, You will have partaken of safety. Not having entered Paradise and the Abode of Peace, How can there be safety when you haven't achieved your desire? When you are freed from both of these [trials], Only then are you worthy of "goodness". You will be safe from every ugly disposition When you enter Paradise in safety. Both of these [the bridge and the judgment] are pursuing you, Yet you called yourself "good", how presumptuous! You are so far in heart from the truth That you are not a master, but a mere laborer. For a moment, rise from your own nature, And cling to the stirrup of Muhammad. Take whatever the religious law has said as having arrived, And take whatever is predestined as having already happened. For a moment, become a follower of the law; Then, comfortably rest in the field.'
