Section 34 - The Parable on the Attribute of Man

Original content

English translation

Have you heard of the one who went to the judge To satisfy his adversary? There was a man in the midst as a witness Who was unaware of his own origins and prosperity. When he gave his testimony, the judge said, 'O you who are paired with humanity and generosity, Was not such-and-such a generous man your grandfather, Whom Farazdaq used to praise? His gifts were the desire and comfort of the soul, Due to his generosity, he was praised by poets.' The man said, 'Of Farazdaq and poems, I have no knowledge, do not trouble yourself.' The judge said, 'Since out of ignorance, You do not know your own virtues, How can I accept your word? I base all my work on principles. Since you know neither Farazdaq nor his praise, I do not consider your testimony valid.' If you are of mankind, be like Adam; Be on his path, neither more nor less. Put your life in your hand and act bravely, Intend this path and do not linger on it. For this two-day life, in the eyes of wisdom, Whether pleasant or unpleasant, good or bad, Wait until your roots reach water, And the moon of your tent reaches the sun. You are still a child, you are excused; You are very far from this subtle path. When will the bound one attain the fruit of transmission, Compared to whoever has opened the book of intellect? What do you know of God's creation? What do you understand of the explanation of Divine vision? You who are bound to water and bread, How can you know His world and its secrets? Give thanks for the time, that in these days, You were born in the midst of Islam. You have not seen the humiliation and wounds of disbelief, You have not tasted the syrup of infidelity. Without striving on the path of faith, They have brought the table of faith before you.
