دفتر ششم - بخش ۷۹ - آواز دادن هاتف مر طالب گنج را و اعلام کردن از حقیقت اسرار آن / Book Six - Section 79 - The voice of the hidden caller speaking to the seeker of the treasure and informing him of the truth of its mysteries

اندرین بود او که الهام آمدش
کشف شد این مشکلات از ایزدش

کو بگفتت در کمان تیری بنه
کی بگفتندت که اندر کش تو زه

او نگفتت که کمان را سخت کش
در کمان نه گفت او نه پر کنش

از فضولی تو کمان افراشتی
صنعت قواسیی بر داشتی

ترک این سخته کمانی رو بگو
در کمان نه تیر و پریدن مجو

چون بیفتد بر کن آنجا می طلب
زور بگذار و بزاری جو ذهب

آنچ حقست اقرب از حبل الورید
تو فکنده تیر فکرت را بعید

ای کمان و تیرها بر ساخته
صید نزدیک و تو دور انداخته

هرکه دوراندازتر او دورتر
وز چنین گنجست او مهجورتر

فلسفی خود را از اندیشه بکشت
گو بدو کوراست سوی گنج پشت

گو بدو چندانک افزون می دود
از مراد دل جداتر می شود

جاهدوا فینا بگفت آن شهریار
جاهدوا عنا نگفت ای بی قرار

هم چو کنعان کو ز ننگ نوح رفت
بر فراز قلهٔ آن کوه زفت

هرچه افزون تر همی جست او خلاص
سوی که می شد جداتر از مناص

هم چو این درویش بهر گنج و کان
هر صباحی سخت تر جستی کمان

هر کمانی کو گرفتی سخت تر
بود از گنج و نشان بدبخت تر

این مثل اندر زمانه جانی است
جان نادانان به رنج ارزانی است

زانک جاهل ننگ دارد ز اوستاد
لاجرم رفت و دکانی نو گشاد

آن دکان بالای استاد ای نگار
گنده و پر کژدمست و پر ز مار

زود ویران کن دکان و بازگرد
سوی سبزه و گلبنان و آب خورد

نه چو کنعان کو ز کبر و ناشناخت
از که عاصم سفینهٔ فوز ساخت

علم تیراندازیش آمد حجیب
وان مراد او را بده حاضر به جیب

ای بسا علم و ذکاوات و فطن
گشته ره رو را چو غول و راه زن

بیشتر اصحاب جنت ابلهند
تا ز شر فیلسوفی می رهند

خویش را عریان کن از فضل و فضول
تا کند رحمت به تو هر دم نزول

زیرکی ضد شکستست و نیاز
زیرکی بگذار و با گولی بساز

زیرکی دان دام برد و طمع و گاز
تا چه خواهد زیرکی را پاک باز

زیرکان با صنعتی قانع شده
ابلهان از صنع در صانع شده

زانک طفل خرد را مادر نهار
دست و پا باشد نهاده بر کنار

English translation

He was in this state when inspiration came to him; these difficulties were resolved for him by God. It said, 'Put an arrow in the bow; when did they tell you to pull the bowstring?' He did not say to draw the bow hard; He said, 'Put it in the bow,' not 'Draw it to the full.' Out of meddling, you raised the bow high; you took up the art of archery. Go, abandon this hard bow-drawing; put the arrow in the bow and do not seek its flight. When it falls, dig and seek there; abandon force and seek the gold through supplication. That which is the Truth is 'closer than the jugular vein'; you have shot the arrow of your thought far away. O you who have fashioned bow and arrows, the prey is near, and you have shot far. Whoever shoots furthest is the furthest away, and is more separated from such a treasure. The philosopher killed himself with thinking; tell him his back is turned toward the treasure. Tell him that the more he runs, the more separated he becomes from the desire of his heart. That King said, 'Strive in Us'; He did not say, 'Strive away from Us,' O restless one. Like Canaan, who went away out of shame of Noah, to the top of that huge mountain. The more he sought deliverance, going towards the mountain, the more separated he was from the place of refuge. Just like this dervish, for the sake of the treasure and mine, every morning he drew the bow harder. Every time he drew the bow harder, he was more unfortunate regarding the treasure and the sign. This parable is very relevant in the world; the soul of the ignorant is worthy of suffering. Because the ignorant one considers the master a disgrace, inevitably he went and opened a new shop. That shop above the master's, O beauty, is foul and full of scorpions and full of snakes. Quickly destroy the shop and return to the greenery and rosebushes and the drinking water. Not like Canaan, who out of pride and ignorance, made the mountain his protector instead of the ship of salvation. His knowledge of archery became a veil, while his desired object was present in his pocket. Oh, how many sciences and sharpnesses and intelligences have become like a ghoul and a highway robber for the traveler. Most of the companions of Paradise are simpletons, so that they escape from the mischief of philosophy. Strip yourself of learning and meddling, so that mercy may descend upon you at every moment. Cleverness is the opposite of brokenness and supplication; abandon cleverness and make do with simplicity. Know that cleverness brings the snare and greed and the shears; what use has the pure player for cleverness? The clever ones are content with the craft; the simpletons have gone from the creation to the Creator. Because for the small child, the mother by day is hands and feet, laid upon her bosom.
