Original content

English translation

The life-stealing sweetheart, Love, has arrived The head-severing and head-showing, Love, has arrived Love tells its secret to the severed head Because it knows the head would be a talebearer Arise and show your stature to Love For the muezzin has called the 'Qad Qamat' (prayer is established) Love is the speaker of hidden words Love is the clothed one with a naked body Love belongs to no created being Being a lover belongs to none but the one who has arrived The fire-kindling water, Love, has arrived The water-burning fire, Love, has arrived Love exists without the four pegs of the body The wise bird is a cage-breaker The soul that is far from unity Know that it is like a domestic fowl Which has no journey towards its own heights It has wings, but lacks the zenith of flight Its ambition is merely to eat grain Its power is only to fly around the house Be a slave of Love so that you may escape From afflictions, ugliness, and ruin The slave of Love is a free soul How can a man of the ship be a man of pearls? Know the ship's head is full of desire The bottom of the sea is the place for the seeker of pearls A seeker of pearls, and yet on a ship? You won't find pearls with such an ugly intention Cut off your greed for the lustrous pearl What path does a glass bead have to a pearl? Resolve to travel on land upon a horse and a donkey When you reach the sea, make your head your feet The man in the stream to the sea's shore Must know that his soul and head are always his footwear Advance in the water journey on your head Learn this even from your own shadow In such a stream, otherwise in front of the shop It is you, a glass bead, and a half-loaf of bread As long as you are terrified of this shadow How will you distinguish a pearl from a glass bead? There is no portion of self present in Love What business do lovers have with a goal? Love and having a goal is infidelity The lover is free from his own desires The lover is he who from soul and body Rises quickly, having spoken no word He places no great value on soul and body He does not place a counterfeit coin in the treasure As long as there is pure gold colored like the moon He does not offer a pouch of black silver The Subtle Creator and the Maker Is Himself pure, and demands pure deeds When your soul finds the pearl in the oyster, lay it down Otherwise, do not let go of the glass bead Your speech is from the shadow of lust, go away At the time of boasting, the leaf of your obedience is worth two barleycorns The realm of dust is for amusement and play The pure realm is for the pure players (who risk all) The selfless ones benefit from Love Love and one's own goal is in vain Lovers lay down their heads in the dark night You are intent on how you can snatch a turban Love is a fire-extinguisher without water Love is much sought after but rarely found When Love gives a hand, it breaks the back The feet of the lover have bound the two hands of the wheel (of heaven) Alas, that this meaning with you Cannot be spoken, because you are devoid of it
