هر گدایی که بینی از کم کم
پادشاهیست با خیول و علم

همه دردی کشان ولی بی ظرف
همه مقری ولی نه صوت و نه حرف

چون سر عشق آن جهان دارند
همچو شمعند سر ز جان دارند

زانکه تاشان امید نبود و بیم
جانشان تن خورد چو شمع مقیم

پیش امرش چو کلک برجسته
سر قدم کرده و میان بسته

سگ درد پوستین درویشان
ورنه چرخ است بندهٔ ایشان

باش تا روز حشر برخیزند
همه در دامن دل آویزند

تا ببینی تو خاصه بر در یار
پیش هریک هزار مرتبه دار

حرکت رفته از اشارتشان
حرفها جسته از عبارتشان

منتهای امیدشان تا او
قبله شان او و انسشان با او

همه خواهی که باشی او را باش
رو برش سوی خویش هیچ مباش

ژالهٔ ذل ز دل مران هرگز
کز ره ذل رسی به گلشن عز

English translation

Every beggar that you see, from the least of the least Is a king with cavalry and a banner All are drinkers of the dregs, but without a vessel All are reciters, but with neither sound nor letter Since they hold the secret of love for that world They are like candles, offering their heads out of their lives Because they have neither hope nor fear Their soul consumes their body like a steadfast candle Before His command, like an eager pen They have made their head their feet and bound their waists The dog tears the sheepskin coat of the dervishes Otherwise, the celestial sphere is their servant Wait until they rise on the Day of Resurrection And all cling to the skirt of the heart So that you may see, especially at the door of the Friend Before each one, a thousand rank-holders Movement has gone from their gesture Letters have leapt from their expression The utmost of their hope is unto Him Their Qibla is Him, and their intimacy is with Him If you want to be everything, be His Go before Him, be nothing towards yourself Never drive the dew of abasement from your heart For through the path of abasement you will reach the rose garden of glory
