Section 55 - On the Description of the Sizes of the Constellations and the Wandering Stars

Original content

English translation

These astrologers are ignorant of their work; there is no awakened heart in their endeavors. Deception and trickery are their only tools; they have no share of knowledge and forbearance. The Sun, which in magnitude compared to the Earth is counted as one hundred and twenty-four times larger, they have designated Leo as its house— how far, how far they have fallen from reason! Venus, which is a stranger to even a quarter of the Earth's size, why should Taurus and Libra be its houses? Mercury is not even a single fraction of the Earth's sphere, yet it has two houses: Virgo and Gemini. There is not much discernment in their practice; arise and mock the beard of that astrologer! They write blindly in the almanac, assigning good and bad fortunes to the public—what a 'wise man'! They boast greatly of their knowledge, though God has granted them no knowledge at all. There is no difference among the people of the world; the horoscopes of the whole city are identical. All their judgments are wind; consider them as wind, and wash your hands of these foolish rulings. The magic circle and astrology are nothing but nonsense; only the gullible are duped by such teachings. The words of the fortune-teller have no benefit; he who measured the heavens merely measured the wind. There is nothing, except by the power of God, that is good or bad in temperaments and elements. Without divine decree, creation cannot draw a single breath; a wise man does not sound such a hollow bell.
