بخش ۹ - اندر عزّت عقل / Section 9 - On the Dignity of the Intellect

عزت عقل هست سوی روان
نزد روشن ضمیر پاک روان

در اضافت سوی زمانه لطیف
به اضافت به سوی عقل کثیف

اول و آخر و عزیز و ذلیل
علوی و سفلی و قبیح و جمیل

غرض امر و دایهٔ آدم
عرض نفس و جوهر عالم

هم ورای مراتب اسمی
هم پذیرای صورت جسمی

ذات او گشته مستدیر از نفس
جنبش او اثرپذیر از نفس

مایه و پایهٔ مدارج اسم
علت و آلت مراتب جسم

این همه عقل را مسلم گشت
آسمان عقل و روح سلم گشت

English translation

The dignity of the intellect is directed toward the soul To the enlightened and pure spirit In relation to the world, it is subtle In relation to the intellect, [the world] is dense First and last, honored and abased Upper and lower, ugly and beautiful The purpose of the Command and the nursemaid of Adam The accident of the soul and the substance of the world Both beyond the degrees of names And receptive to bodily form Its essence is made spherical by the soul Its movement is influenced by the soul The substance and foundation of the degrees of names The cause and instrument of the ranks of the body All this became indisputable for the intellect The heaven of intellect and spirit became safe and sound
