Section 39 - On the Mention of the Severance of Lineage

Original content

English translation

Bring out the pure Adam from the clay, Do not possess a bright eye and a dark heart. By God, if it were for the sake of honor, How could a successor like you come from God's vicegerent? If you try to validate your lineage here, You will only make the path of fire swift upon yourself. Be patient until in this transitory abode, For the sake of greed and grief, and not for luxury, They eventually strip off these borrowed skins from you, With the hand of deliverance, So that when you emerge from your dust, You shall see in that moment how you emerge from the water. Choose nobility with a joyful heart, Do not be like a base person enduring humiliation. The people of this world, in good and bad, Are all sleepers in a ship, With sails hoisted for the journey, Count the dark earth as made of water and fire. Heedless out of ignorance and misfortune, With piebald horses carrying riders beneath them, When would they halt, except for a moment in pride, Entirely distant from God and creation? Whoever becomes intoxicated with pride and heedlessness, Loses the goodness of the next world. Neither haste will benefit your work, nor patience, For that infidel both hastened and showed patience. The guide of the path is nothing but divine guidance, And that path is not in this worldly domain. How would one worry about kisses and embraces, If one consumes poppy seeds and wild herbs? The knowledge of religion that you hear in negligence, Will not make your belief and faith strong. You are not a tulip of negligence, O servant— Dark-hearted, short-lived, yet laughing. Until the wise man passes through fire, How can a joyful laugh rise from his soul?
