پدر و مادر جهان لطیف
نفس گویا شناس و عقل شریف

زین دو جفت شریف طاق مباش
واندرین هر دو اصل عاق مباش

بندگی کن همیشه ایشان را
مده از دست در پریشان را

گرشان بعد امر بپرستند
این دو گوهر سزای آن هستند

پدر و مادری که نازارند
حکما عقل و نفس را دارند

مایه بخش سپهر و ارکانند
پیشکاران عالم جانند

سبب جسمت این دو جسمانیست
علت روحت آن دو روحانیست

آن دوت از آرزو سپرده به خاک
وآن دوت از قدر برده بر افلاک

حق آن دو شریف را بگذار
حق این هر دو هم فرو مگذار

وانکه در راه کعبه از سر داد
اشتر این داد اگرت زاد آن داد

خرد از تو تویی برد جاوید
آب را در هوا کشد خورشید

خرد آمد مشاطهٔ جانت
خرد آمد چراغ ایمانت

حقهٔ حق دراین جهان خردست
سر به مهرست و پایدار خودست

عقل در کارگاه کن فیکون
از پی جلوهٔ قرار و سکون

در ازل چون حدیث با خود راند
تا ابد همچو کرم پیله بماند

سوی بازار دین چو جستی راه
رستی ار جستی از ملامت گاه

از کژی دور باش و کاژ مباش
چون نه ای عود خیره ناژ مباش

که کژی نفس عشوه آگین راست
راستی عقل عافیت بین راست

خرد از بد ترا نجات دهد
خرد از دوزخت برات دهد

جاهلی کفر و عاقلی دین است
عیب جو آن و غیب گو این است

کشد این را هوا سوی سجین
برد آنرا خرد به علیین

منگر آن تات بد چه فرماید
آن نگر کت خرد چه فرماید

کند ار عاقلت به حق در خشم
به از آن کت ببندد ابله چشم

همه کار تو باد با عقلا
دور بادی ز صحبت جهلا

English translation

Father and mother of the subtle world, Know as the speaking soul and the noble intellect. Do not be apart from this noble pair, And do not be a disobedient child to these two origins. Always be in their service, Do not let go of these pearls in distress. If after His command they were to be worshipped, These two jewels would be worthy of it. The father and mother who do not cause harm, The wise consider them to be the intellect and soul. They grant substance to the sphere and the elements, They are the stewards of the world of spirit. The cause of your body is those two physical ones, The cause of your spirit is these two spiritual ones. Those two consigned you to dust out of desire, While these two elevated you to the heavens through worth. Fulfill the rights of those two noble ones, Yet do not neglect the rights of these two either. He who sacrificed his head on the path to the Kaaba, This one provided the camel if that one gave the provision. Intellect eternally takes your ego away from you, Just as the sun draws water into the air. Intellect became the adornment of your soul, Intellect became the lamp of your faith. The casket of Truth in this world is the intellect, It is sealed and endures by itself. The intellect in the workshop of 'Be, and it is', Seeking the manifestation of tranquility and stillness, When it conversed with itself in eternity, It remained like a silkworm unto eternity. When you sought the way to the marketplace of faith, You were saved if you leapt from the place of blame. Be far from crookedness and do not be perverse, Since you are not aloe wood, do not foolishly be pine. For crookedness belongs to the deceit-filled soul, Straightness belongs to the safety-seeking intellect. Intellect will save you from evil, Intellect will give you an exemption from Hell. Ignorance is disbelief and intelligence is faith, That one seeks faults and this one speaks of the unseen. Desire drags this one to Sijjin (the lowest hell), Intellect carries that one to Illiyyin (the highest heaven). Do not look at what the evil commands you to do, Look at what the intellect commands you. If a wise man rightfully becomes angry with you, It is better than a fool blinding your eyes. May all your affairs be with the wise, May you be far from the company of the ignorant.
