مرتضی را گفت مردی نامور
تو چه میدانی بعالم بیشتر

گفت طاعت بیشتر بر آسمانست
زانکه آنجا منزل روحانیانست

لیک بر روی زمین از خشک و تر
هیچم از غفلت نیاید بیشتر

ور ز زیر خاک میپرسیم نیز
نیست بیش از حسرت آنجا هیچ چیز

آنکه را از خاک و خون بندی بود
در نگر تاحسرتش چندی بود

کار عالم زادنست و مردنست
گه پدید آوردن و گه بردنست

لاجرم این کار بی پایان فتاد
تا ابد این درد بیدرمان فتاد

این چنین کاری که بیش از حدماست
از زحیر ما نخواهد گشت راست

English translation

A renowned man said to Morteza, 'What do you know to be most prevalent in the world?' He said, 'Obedience is most prevalent in the heavens, For that is the abode of the spiritual beings. But on the face of the earth, from the dry to the wet, Nothing appears to me more prevalent than heedlessness. And if you ask me about beneath the earth, too, There is nothing there more prevalent than regret. He who is bound by earth and blood, Look and see how much regret he will have! The business of the world is being born and dying, Sometimes bringing into existence and sometimes taking away. Inevitably, this is an endless affair, Until eternity, this is an incurable pain. Such a task, which is beyond our capacity, Will not be made right by our lamentation.'
