Section 3 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

That pure man went to the madman, He saw him amidst blood and dust. Like a drunkard, he saw him bewildered and astounded, He found him headlong and wandering. He said, 'O madman, without direction or path, What are you engaged in, day and night, in this place?' He said, 'I am a seeker of the Truth, day and night.' The man said to him, 'I have this very same quest.' The madman said, 'Then for fifty years, Like me, sit in blood in every circumstance. Drink your bowl full of blood, O dear one, And after that, give me a bowl as well. So that this ocean may be emptied, Or our affair may be resolved. Since there is no way to untie this knot, There is no way either through dying or being born. This much I know, that with all these twists and turns, I know not, I know not, nothing, nothing at all.'
