گفت محمود آن خدیو کامگار
میخرید از بهر خود برده هزار

پس ایاز پاک دل را آن زمان
در مکاس جمله بستد رایگان

آن غلامان میشدند از دور پیش
عرضه میکردند خصلتهای خویش

گفت آن یک من کمانکش آمدم
گفت این در تیر آرش آمدم

گفت آن یک نیزهٔ گردان مراست
گفت این یک خنجر بران مراست

گفت این یک من بدرم صد مصاف
گفت آن یک بشکنم من کوه قاف

گفت مردی از سر طعنه مگر
کای ایاز اینجا چه داری تو هنر

گفت ای سائل هنر دارم یکی
کز دو عالم بهتر ارزد بیشکی

بود جاسوسی مگر بشنود راز
رفت و گفت آن راز با محمود باز

شه بخواند او را و گفتش ای غلام
چه هنر داری بگو با من تمام

گفت اگر تاج خودم بر سر نهی
جایگه سازی مرا تخت شهی

هفت کشور زیر فرمانم کنی
بر همه آفاق سلطانم کنی

من نیفتم در غلط تا زنده ام
زآنکه من دانم که دایم بنده ام

در زمین و آسمان خاص و عام
نیست از فرمان بری برتر مقام

English translation

Mahmud, that successful sovereign, said He would buy a thousand slaves for himself Then for the sake of the pure-hearted Ayaz at that time In the bargaining of all, he took him for free Those slaves were coming forward from afar They were presenting their own virtues That one said: I have become an archer This one said: In the arrow of Arash I have come That one said: A whirling spear belongs to me This one said: A sharp dagger belongs to me This one said: I will tear through a hundred battle-lines That one said: I will break the Mount Qaf A man said out of mockery perhaps O Ayaz, what art or talent do you have here? He said: O seeker, I have one art Which is worth more than both worlds without doubt A spy was there perhaps who heard the secret He went and told that secret back to Mahmud The King called him and said to him: O slave Tell me fully what talent you possess He said: If you place your own crown on my head Make for me a place on the royal throne Make seven countries under my command Make me the Sultan over all horizons I will not fall into error as long as I live Because I know that I am always a servant In the earth and sky, for the elite and the common There is no station higher than being obedient
